So, when choosing a binder for alumina ceramics, what are the specific factors to consider?


At present, the bond in the market can be divided into lubricant, plasticizer, dispersant, surfactant, etc., in order to meet the forming needs, usually use a variety of organic material combination. When selecting alumina ceramic binder, it is first required to be wet by powder, and only when the critical surface tension or surface free energy of powder is larger than the surface tension of the binder, it can be well wetted.


Secondly, a good binder is easy to be fully wetted by powder, and the cohesion is large. When the binder is wet by powder, gravitational interaction occurs between the mutual molecules, and a binding occurs between the binder and powder. At the same time, cohesion is generated within the binder molecule due to orientation, induction and dispersion effects. Although water can also fully wet the powder, but water is volatile, small molecular weight, small cohesion, for alumina ceramics to say that it is not a good binder.


In addition, the molecular weight size of the binder used in alumina ceramics should be moderate. With the increase of molecular weight, the binding ability is enhanced. But when the molecular weight is too large, the cohesive force is too large and not easy to be wet, and easy to make the body deformation. In order to help the movement of the chain segment within the molecule, the plasticizer should be properly added at this time, which is easy to wet at the same time, so that the binder is more soft and easy to form.


In addition, in order to ensure the quality of alumina ceramics, it is also necessary to prevent the mixing of impurities from the binder, raw materials and preparation process, resulting in harmful defects in the product. Therefore, it is necessary to choose organic materials that can be easily removed by flying and do not contain harmful inorganic salts and metal ions to ensure product quality.
